I have spent significant time working with various generative AI solutions available lately. This includes products and approaches such as ChatGPT, generative AI embedded in Adobe Photoshop and image creation through Lexica and Stable Diffusion. I even asked ChatGPT to create some content about remote work and I posted it in a previous entry: Is Remote Work Productive?
Capabilities are available and have now been opened to anyone who can type words or to speak basic natural language. Generative AI solutions will take words, sentences and queries and will create something out of what was embodied in the words. The result may be a text answer, an extensive analysis or short dissertation, a photorealistic or stylized image, a song, a voice; the options are numerous and growing quickly, probably only limited by human imagination. Wow, we still have a role to play at the moment.
With a tremendous amount of power available at the click of a mouse or keypad, will creativity be reduced to scrolling through almost infinite options generated and presented by an AI synthesis or creation engine? One can describe a scene they envision, type in some key words or phrases, and one or more images capturing the words will be created. If what one sees is not quite right, it can be “tweaked” quickly and almost effortlessly in a matter of seconds. Something which may have taken hours or days from inception to completion, may now take seconds or minutes. And what has been lost because of the power at one’s fingertips?
