We enjoyed a refreshing and rejuvenating day at Iceland’s Blue Lagoon. Our actual time at the Blue Lagoon was from 11 am to 4 pm, as we booked a retreat spa reservation which had a defined 5 hour time-frame.

We were staying at the 101 Hotel in the heart of Reykjavik, which is a very nice boutique hotel that is very close to most the attractions in the center of Reykjavik. Depending on one’s walking ability, there are many restaurants in the area both up and down a slight incline from the hotel. The Blue Lagoon is about a 45 to 50 minute drive from the 101 Hotel and generally from the center of Reykjavik. We booked a leisurely 10:15 pickup from the hotel through Iceland Highlights, knowing that this was our first full morning of waking up in Reykjavik after an overnight flight two nights earlier.

As mentioned above, we chose to book The Retreat Spa at the Blue Lagoon rather than a general admission ticket. The Retreat Spa reservation allowed access to all areas of the Blue Lagoon included in the general admission, plus several other amenities including the ability to have a quiet lunch at the Spa Restaurant. For us, given that this was our first full day after an overnight flight and desiring to truly make this a rejuvenating experience ahead of touring Iceland and Norway for two weeks, the more extravagant choice of the Retreat Spa was well worth it.

In addition to a leisurely and more private entrance through the Retreat Hotel, booking the spa gave us access to private changing facilities and easy access to all that the Blue Lagoon has to offer.
