Always having been a Deep Purple fan, it is exciting to hear that the current band members have pulled together and are releasing a new album in November 2021. The album will be a first for the band – a collection of covers, with some interesting choices in the mix. One track is already out, “7 And 7 Is” along with a great music video which is effectively a “making of the album” montage in addition to sessions for recording the track itself.
The album was apparently pulled together through remote sessions – a sign of the Covid times, but also a sign of the power of technology and the ability to create collaborative success across the miles. The current band members are Ian Paice, Steven Morse, Ian Gillan, Donald Airey and Roger Glover.
I don’t think the photos on the album cover were touched up – I think that all of these “older” gents look like stereotypical criminals.
The “7 And 7 Is” track rocks and hopefully the rest of the album will deliver.
